Children's Cancer Camp Volunteer: June Session 2022

Friday, June 24th from 3:00pm to Saturday, July 2nd, 2022 2:00pm (PT)

About

About Us: The Goodtimes Project is a Seattle-based nonprofit whose mission is to create caring spaces for local families impacted by a childhood cancer diagnosis to connect and for kids to be kids, through camps, events, and programs. We serve families throughout Western Washington and Alaska with a goal of providing cost-free programming to help kids reconnect with a world beyond their diagnosis.

Opportunity Description: Are you prepared for the time of your life? Donate your time and your laughter and make camp all it can be. We're looking for individuals who are friendly, trustworthy, dedicated, and caring to donate 9 days of their time to being on staff at Camp Goodtimes, a no-cost camp for kids impacted by childhood cancer. What you get in return is priceless. We take the job of caring for medically and emotionally fragile campers seriously, but we smile, laugh, and learn every day. Each camp session, we need ~70 individuals to join us in making it a week to remember for approximately 110 campers. Are you one of them?

Requirements: Looking for compassionate, responsible, trustworthy, empathetic, and joyful people age 18+. No experience working with kids with cancer needed (we have an onsite medical staff for all health concerns), but the ability to put campers' needs first and the desire to make it a week to remember are required. Job positions include cabin counselor, cabin support staff, activities staff, arts and crafts, and muscle staff (logistics). Volunteers are expected to be at camp for the entire nine days of the session.

Days/Times: June 24-July 2, 2022

Location: Vashon Island, WA (Camp Goodtimes uses the facilities of Camp Burton on Vashon)

Application Process: Read more about volunteer staff opportunities for Camp Goodtimes, and apply online once applications go live on March 1 at www.thegoodtimesproject.org/camp-goodtimes-staff. Applications for 2022 will launch on March 1 and close on April 15, 2022. **Background Check...to ensure the safety of our campers, we will run a background check on all applicants (no cost to applicant). In addition, alcohol, cigarette, and drug consumption are prohibited for the duration of your 9-day volunteer shift.

Orientation & Training: Online and onsite training provided; 1-2.5 hours of pre-camp video training is required.
