Anne @ Adopt All The Kittens Rescue

Very rewarding work, definitely a labor of love. Mostly cleaned litterboxes, made sure all rescue kittens had food and water. Helped with bathing and deworming.

Piper - did you perform service or just learn what WSA has to offer?

Evan - Sorry, I didn't meant to put you as the Requested Verifier! This is my first time using GivePulse. I performed service by speaking at an Information Session at Fall Welcome today.

Jenna @ Scouts of America Troop 63

At the Scouts of America Troop 63 pancake breakfast, I dried trays off after they were washed, assembled and distributed trays with utensils and plates for customers, greeted customers as they entered the service line, and answered customers’ questions.

This volunteer work showed me the necessity and beauty of teamwork. The Scouts, whether current or graduated, worked together with parents and other volunteers to organize and run this pancake breakfast smoothly and safely, in the middle of a pandemic no less. It also reminded me of the importance of community; the community members who attended the pancake breakfast expressed their gratitude that such an event could take place this year after last year’s confusion. It also gave me a chance to interact with people I hadn’t met before, or people I knew but hadn’t seen in a while, because every single person in attendance had to stop by my station to grab a tray.

I will definitely volunteer at this event again next year.

Nicholas @ Blackford County Animal Shelter

Over the course of the summer, I feel that going to the Animal shelter and helping with the upkeep of the kennels provided me with an appreciation for the work people do to keep places like that open. The opportunity to volunteer also made me feel some level of satisfaction to care for animals without do not have families to take care of them, and I am considering volunteering at these shelters again when I am available. Without people willing to help out of the goodness of their hearts, it is possible that no-kill shelters like ours would not be able to continue operation.

I had the fortunate opportunity to volunteer at the COVID-19 vaccine clinic on campus. I wanted to get an idea of how the vaccine process works and I felt that it was important as a public health major to understand this process.
